Brian S. Matross


Brian joined Gordon & Jacobson as an associate attorney in July 2007. He graduated from Cornell University in 1997 with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, and from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 2003 with a J.D. degree. While in law school, Brian was a two-year member of CWRU's mock trial team, and a managing editor of the Internet Law Journal, an on-line publication associated with news, events, and other information pertaining to intellectual property matters. Brian is a member of the NY, MA, and NJ bars, and is also registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Brian drafts and prosecutes patents in diverse fields including medical instruments, dental tools, surgical methods, orthopedic bone fracture fixation systems and prostheses, geophysical systems, combustion engine parts, heat exchangers, retail packaging, chemical compositions, fluid analysis, spas, solar photovoltaic systems, e-commerce, light and audio devices, and numerous other mechanical devices.

Brian also handles much of the firm's trademark practice, and regularly counsels clients on all aspects of trademark clearance, prosecution, appeals, cancellations, and oppositions. Prior to joining Gordon & Jacobson, Brian worked on trademark and product liability litigation matters for small and medium sized firms in NYC and Boston. Prior to law school, Brian worked for three years in the Midwest as an engineer and project manager in the areas of manufacturing, product design, and material handling in the automotive and toy industries.
