David P. Gordon

David
graduated from Yale University cum laude with a B.S. degree in Engineering and Applied
Sciences in 1977 and obtained his J.D. degree from Georgetown University
Law Center
in 1980. While in law school, David clerked for Fleit & Jacobson, a
mid-sized Intellectual Property law firm in Washington, D.C.
and gained patent searching experience in the U.S. Patent Office. Upon
graduating, he worked as an associate for a small patent litigation firm, and
then served as in-house patent counsel for Schlumberger in Ridgefield, Connecticut
where he obtained extensive experience in working closely with inventors.
Since establishing his practice in 1984 which is devoted
primarily to patent and intellectual property prosecution, licensing and
counseling, David has worked with and advised start-up companies, stock market
companies, Fortune 500 companies, and individuals. David is known nationally
for his expertise in the disparate fields of telecommunications and medical
equipment, and has an established patent prosecution expertise in electronics
including telecommunications, integrated circuits, processors, and a wide
range of electronic consumer and commercial devices, and in medical equipment
including endoscopic, arthroscopic, and laparoscopic instruments, stents,
catheters, optical devices, needled and needleless devices such as syringes
and line connectors. He also has worked closely with inventors in other
fields such as oil exploration, specialty wires, security and identification,
rockets, hangers, exercise apparatus, diamond deposition, hydrogels, and insect
repellents, among others.
David regularly counsels high-level management at corporate
clients regarding patent infringement, patentability, patent portfolios,
patent licensing, trademarks and copyrights, both in the U.S. and
internationally, and is adept at understanding both legal and business
issues. David has also developed and regularly delivers a series of lectures
on intellectual property protection to management, engineers and the sales
staff of corporate clients, including tutorials on the patent process and the
requirements for a successful corporate patent program. Because he has a
litigation background, David supervises and provides support to IP litigation
counsel when appropriate and necessary.
David is experienced in front of the Board of Appeals of
the U.S. Patent Office, and has also argued successfully before the Court of
Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He is a member of the Connecticut,
New York,
and American Bar Associations, as well as the Connecticut Patent Law
Association and the Yale Science and Engineering Association.
